Mark your calenders for June. At Amé Amé, we are celebrating diversity the only way we know how. Meaning, of course, that we are having our first ever Gummy Bear and Rainbow Festival. There will be a variety of gummy bears, the likes of which have never before seen by the East Village.

Indeed, all manner of gummy bears in a range of colors, flavors, shapes, and sizes.

We encourage you to pick out and mix as many varieties as you care to, as our candy is at a loving “pick ‘n mix” price of $2.99 a quarter pound for top quality candy and $2.75 on rain days.

You could also choose to purchase one of our rainbow or color changing umbrellas and receive 50% off your candy and chocolate bar buys.

We live in one of the most diverse cities in the world, and that fact has all the bearing in the world on the fact that this is one of the greatest cities in the world. So come celebrate it with us at Amé Amé in June.

Amé Amé is located at 318 E 9th st in Manhattan between 2nd & 1st Avenue.

As you know we care so much about protecting parks that exist today and helping projects that ensure we have more parks in the future.

And of course trees often times go hand in hand with parks.

So what do you get when you combine a love for trees & umbrellas – some really cool installations & photos of course.

There’s something ultra sickening about choosing a marathon finish line as a place for a shrapnel bomb.

As somebody who loves to run, dance, play tennis, and swim I know that having an amputation would at first feel almost like the end of the world.

But it’s not the end of the world and I want to be sure that those who have been seriously injured  continue to believe in the dreams they had before the attack and strive to live their lives with 110% Heart – passionate, determined to make a difference, and appreciative of everything had.

Thus until end of this week you may contribute $30 to Amé Amé’s project to create a happier world with more parks and playground, and we will deliver our 110% Heart M11 black tote bag to those people who are undergoing critical care because of the attack.

If you add an additional $20 we will then also send you a bag .  Or you may ask to have your bag sent to a second person in critical care.

We will include your name on a get well card unless you ask to remain anonymous.

To be fully transparent, $20 of the $30 covers cost of the bag while $1o will support Amé Amé’s project to create our special Environmentally & Community Conscious umbrellas whose mission is to make a more peaceful world through the power of parks.

Please go here to make your loving and caring contribute http://bit.ly/Zxrb2u

The 110% Heart Logo is designed to inspire people to live life with 110% Heart – passionate, driven to make a difference, and appreciative of everything had.

I believe that in every in every town and city wherever you are you should be within 15 minutes walk of a park so you can allow nature or the laughter of children to heal sorrow after a tragedy like yesterday’s attack in Boston.

Perhaps that sounds crazy, but the Trust for Public Land is actually working with NYC to make that happen. But it’s not done until its done, and it requires the help of individuals like you and me and organizations like Amé Amé continuing to provide support.

Amé Amé has 18 days to go with our indiegogo kickstarter. Please donate $5 or more to our mission to ensure we have more parks and playgrounds in the future not less. Every dollar counts. http://bit.ly/Z0SwQn

Just in time for Earth Day on April 22nd, we now have the Ecoverse ShedRain umbrellas that have a canopy made from 100% recycled fabric!

With 3 colors to choose from, an asparagus like green (root green), tree bark brown, and navy, these umbrellas with their bamboo handles make for a nice choice if you care about the environment and want an auto-open and auto-close wind resistant / wind proof umbrella with a double canopy (aka a vent).

Root Green Ecoverse Umbrella, White Collar Necklace, and Black Aigle Juliette Bottillion boots – all found at Amé Amé online or in our boutique in the East Village of NYC (646-867-2342)

On our sister site Rain or Shine Fashion, we’re going to try posting each week 3 summaries of stories we read related to smart, sensible fashion for enjoying life whatever the weather is.

Here’s a link to the first posting – please share for anybody who follows fashion trends!   bit.ly/17sZsX0

Lots of chatter happening today about it feeling like summer while on Sunday it felt like winter.

If you’re truly concerned about Global Warming then please stop buying low quality or  “disposable” umbrellas and only buy from the only umbrella shop you can truly trust – Amé Amé  (AmeRain.com)

Blunt Umbrellas are designed to withstand very strong winds and not fall apart ( you can call it a windproof umbrella…but nothing in life is “proof” anything).

One friend of mine, the musically talented and handsome Jonas Borra (watch out, you just might be lucky enough to hear one of his currently unrecorded songs some day) posted today “Once again we go straight from winter to summer.. Spring and autumn are things of the past.”

True or at least partially true, the statement made me really really sad.

In most parts of the world, but especially in the Northeast I love Spring more than any time.  And then after spring I love Fall weather.   Essentially I love it whenever the weather is just perfect for a 4 oz or 6 oz cotton waxed Barbour jacket like the Vintage Durham without a sweater.

But of course lets ignore fashion for a second and remember that what makes Spring and Fall so special is the Godly beauty of flowers in bud stage and golden leaves still on the tree.  And when you mess with the climate like we’ve been doing with excessive emissions of CO2 and other gasses, we risk losing such beauty and causing  a lot of other troubles.

So please consider if you’re you’re adding to the CO2 problem by buying several umbrellas a year  because you’re buying low quality ones that break or because you’re not responsibly hanging on to your umbrella (or maybe because you’ve contributed the bad karma of umbrella steeling).

Those chintzy black umbrellas and those Apt. No 5 umbrellas from Duane Reade don’t get their way over to America from China by taking emission free row boats.  And they probably don’t get from port to store door step by a Prius wrapped in compost-able banana leaves (no they make several truck trips and come wrapped in petrolium based plastic sleeves and cardboard boxes that may or may not get properly produced and recycled.)

Plus at $5 to $20 a pop. you can probably guess right that they’re not made in eco-friendly facilities, but are instead made in sweat shop factories.

Sustainability means taking responsibility and buying quality!

If Amé Amé can sell enough Environmentally & Community Conscious Umbrellas, I’d love to see to it that every winter one of the parks in New York City and other cities across America  are decorated not just with pretty Christmas lights but also Giant Gingerbread men like this guy.

This past winter my belief that parks are in trouble was reaffirmed as I walked through Union Square in the evening and felt like one of NYC’s most visited parks should have been shimmering with festive Christmas lights, but instead was depressingly dark and felt unsafe with meth users sleeping around on the ground and on park benches..

Even in March, a holiday gingerbread man makes one want to have fun and be like a kid.  Here I am with a friend visiting from LA.

While March 2013 is just a few days ago, how about we go back in time to March 1961 to see what kind of raingear they were modeling in Seventeen magazine.

From March 1961 Seventeen Magazine….love the pink rain poncho especially!
